Who can apply

['988 is available to anyone who needs crisis support, including people seeking help for another person.']

What help is available

Documents to prepare

You can explain what is happening in your own words. If you are seeking help for another person, describe what concerns you and whether you are with them. If there is immediate physical danger or a medical emergency, call 911.

How to get started

Call or text 988, or start a conversation through 988 online chat.

After applying

Tell the counselor if a suggestion is not practical for you. Before ending the conversation, clarify the next step and how you can get support again. Confidentiality is not a promise that emergency intervention can never occur.
