Alabama Community Action Agencies

Alabama’s Community Action network connects residents with county providers for energy, housing, food, early learning and other assistance. The statewide association supplies a directory; local agencies deliver the services.

Who can apply

['Every Alabama county has Community Action coverage. The county provider determines which services you can apply for.', 'Each program has its own eligibility rules and funding. Finding your agency does not establish eligibility for every program it offers.']

What help is available

Depending on the agency, services may include utility help, weatherization, food support, early-childhood services, workforce assistance and referrals. Check the provider’s current service list before arranging intake.

Documents to prepare

Start with your county or ZIP code and the need you want to address. After finding the agency, request the checklist for that specific service. Keep any urgent notice and income records available for an appointment if requested.

How to get started

  1. Search the Community Action Association’s agency directory by ZIP, county or service.
  2. If the ZIP search does not identify your agency, select your county.
  3. Contact the listed local provider. Ask which program fits the need, whether intake is open, and how to apply.

After applying

Keep the local provider’s contact and application reference. Return status questions to the agency handling the request. If it cannot offer a service, ask about another local provider or contact Alabama 211 for a referral.

Common questions

Does the statewide association pay assistance?

It supports the network and publishes the directory. Local agencies provide direct services.

What if my ZIP code is not recognized?

Select the county instead to find the agency’s service area.

Are all services available in every county?

The network covers the state, but local services and funding can differ. Confirm the service with the provider.

Can I ask about more than utility bills?

Yes. The directory includes several kinds of support; select the need and ask the local agency about its available programs.
