Alabama WIC

Alabama WIC offers food and nutrition support for pregnancy and young children. Find out how to arrange a clinic appointment and prepare documents.

Who can apply

Alabama WIC serves pregnant or breastfeeding women, women within six months of giving birth, infants and children younger than five. Applicants must live in Alabama, meet income requirements and have a nutritional risk assessed by a clinic health professional.

What help is available

WIC provides supplemental nutrition support. Alabama uses an eWIC card to hold food benefits electronically. The clinic explains your food package and how to use the card.

Documents to prepare

  • Identification for the parent or caretaker and each applicant, such as a driver’s license, birth certificate or hospital birth card.
  • A record showing your street address, such as a lease or bill.
  • Evidence of Medicaid, SNAP or Family Assistance enrollment, or household income records covering everyone who worked during the previous month.

How to get started

  1. Arrange a clinic appointment

Contact your county health department. Call 1-888-942-4673 if you need help finding the nearest agency.

  2. Bring the applicants and records

The state instructs applicants to attend with the infant or child applying, where applicable. Confirm the appointment arrangements with your clinic.

  3. Complete the assessment

Clinic staff review the records and assess nutritional risk before determining eligibility.

After applying

Ask your clinic about your benefits, follow-up appointments and nutrition education. Use the state’s eWIC instructions for card questions.

Do I bring my child?

Yes, the application instructions say to bring the person applying for WIC, including the infant or child.

What if I already receive SNAP or Medicaid?
