Arkansas SNAP (Food Assistance)

Arkansas SNAP provides food benefits through an EBT card for qualifying households. Access Arkansas handles online applications; DHS also provides paper forms in several languages.

Who can apply

['DHS considers the food household, income, resources and applicable individual requirements. Work rules and exceptions can also affect eligibility.', 'Submit the application for a case-specific determination. Being eligible for another program does not by itself establish every SNAP condition.']

What help is available

Benefits help cover eligible food purchases, including qualifying food-producing plants and seeds. Approved retailers and participating farmers markets accept SNAP. Check current purchase rules rather than assuming every grocery item is eligible.

Documents to prepare

The state’s application checklist includes identity, residence, income, Social Security numbers or proof of applying for them for benefit applicants, and applicable immigration records. Gather expense records if the worker requests them.

How to get started

  1. Use DHS’s SNAP application page to reach Access Arkansas or a paper form.
  2. Complete and sign the application and retain confirmation.
  3. Complete the interview. Online applicants are offered a telephone interview; follow the appointment notice and provide verification.

After applying

If you miss the interview, contact DHS to request another appointment rather than expecting automatic rescheduling. Read the decision and reporting instructions. Use Access Arkansas to maintain contact information and submit requested records.
