Who can apply
For 2025, CalEITC requires qualifying earned income up to $32,900, a qualifying age or child, California residency and valid SSNs or ITINs, with filing-status and dependency rules. YCTC requires an eligible child under six at year-end.
What help is available
The refund or tax reduction depends on income and family circumstances. The published 2025 maximums are up to $3,756 for CalEITC and $1,189 for YCTC; they are not guaranteed awards.
Documents to prepare
Keep wages/self-employment records, taxpayer and child IDs, residency and qualifying-child information. For YCTC with zero or negative earned income, check its additional wage and loss rules.
How to get started
Calculate eligibility using FTB’s tax-year guidance.
Complete FTB 3514 and include it with the California return. Free CalFile or VITA help may be available. Use prior-year forms for a prior-year claim.
After applying
Keep the return and credit worksheet. Respond to FTB verification requests using the instructions in its notice.
