Who can apply
DSS assesses household composition, income and applicable student or work rules. Provide the household’s actual circumstances rather than using an old income table to rule yourself out.
What help is available
Approved households receive a monthly food benefit. Verified housing, utility, dependent-care or eligible medical expenses may affect the calculation.
Documents to prepare
- Identity, Social Security number and Connecticut address records requested by DSS.
- Recent pay stubs and other income evidence.
- Applicable student or status records and expenses relevant to the benefit calculation.
How to get started
Submit the application
Use the online link on DSS SNAP Apply, mail a paper form, or visit a DSS Resource Center.
Send verification
Use myDSS, the DSS Scanning Center or a resource center. Include your Client ID and Case number on mailed documents if no cover sheet is available.
Complete follow-up
DSS may call for an interview. If you have not heard after two weeks, the page lists 855-626-6632 for interview follow-up. Describe urgent food needs for expedited assessment.
After applying
Read the decision and keep review dates. Use 211 Connecticut or Connecticut Foodshare for food while the claim is pending.
