Covered California

Covered California is the state health-insurance marketplace. Compare plans, check financial help and use its application to screen for marketplace coverage or Medi-Cal.

Who can apply

Marketplace eligibility and savings depend on household and coverage circumstances. Open enrollment is November 1–January 31; qualifying life events may permit special enrollment outside that period.

What help is available

Plans cover medical care and other included benefits. Financial help depends on household size and income; a sample price is not a quote for your household.

Documents to prepare

Prepare household income, tax information, applicants’ SSNs if available and relevant immigration documents. The marketplace says it asks for specific evidence if electronic checks do not confirm information.

How to get started

  1. Use Covered California to compare plans and start the application. Review doctors, prescriptions, premiums and out-of-pocket costs before choosing.

  2. Ask for free certified enrollment help through the Get Help page or call 800-300-1506 for English assistance. Confirm special-enrollment eligibility if applying outside open enrollment.

After applying

Read the eligibility result and plan-start instructions. Complete any first-payment and verification steps. Report household or income changes so financial help remains accurate.

Common questions

Can I enroll at any time?

Open enrollment has set dates; special enrollment requires a qualifying circumstance. Medi-Cal applications are available year-round.

Must I upload all evidence at the start?

Covered California first checks available records and requests specific documents if needed.

Are the displayed sample prices my price?

No. Complete the household application and compare your actual options.

Can I get application help?

Yes. Use the marketplace’s certified help and language-specific contact options.
