Who can apply
A referral search is different from applying for a benefit. Eligibility, funding and service-area requirements belong to the organization receiving the referral.
What help is available
Florida’s network describes a free, confidential service connecting residents with local community organizations. Its statewide directory covers food, housing, utility assistance, healthcare and other needs. Local centers provide the referral; the receiving agency decides eligibility.
Documents to prepare
- Have your county or ZIP code available.
- Describe the type of help needed and any imminent deadline.
- Keep a pen or device ready to record provider names and contact details.
How to get started
Find your local contact
Use Florida 211’s search or dial 211. If your phone or wi-fi calling cannot connect to the short number, use the network’s local-center links to find the center’s ten-digit number or web-chat option.
Explain the need
Tell the specialist what help you need, where you live and whether you have already contacted any agencies.
Contact the referral
Confirm the provider serves your location and ask how to apply.
After applying
If a referral is unavailable, ask for alternatives. Contact hours and channels vary by local center; check your own center’s current information.

Common questions
Does 211 approve a benefit?
No. It helps you locate services; the provider handles the application and decision.
What if a suggested agency cannot help?
Ask the local 211 center for another referral and explain the reason the first option was unsuitable.
Are all local centers’ hours identical?
Do not assume so. Confirm the hours and contact options for your local center.
What if dialing 211 does not connect?
Use the local-center link on Florida 211’s contact page for its ten-digit number or available web chat.
