Hawaii WIC

Hawaiʻi WIC combines supplemental foods with nutrition and breastfeeding support. A pre-application starts the contact process; the clinic completes eligibility and nutrition assessment.

Who can apply

Participants must live in Hawaiʻi and meet income and medical or nutrition-risk requirements. The program covers eligible pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding applicants, infants and children younger than five. A parent or caregiver can arrange an application for a child.

What help is available

WIC supplies selected foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding help and healthcare or social-service referrals. The clinic explains the eWIC card and current shopping guide.

Documents to prepare

  • Identity and Hawaiʻi residence records.
  • Household income records, or evidence of QUEST, TANF or SNAP participation.
  • Available child immunization records; confirm which applicants must attend.

How to get started

  1. Start with the current WIC page

Use the application route at Hawaiʻi WIC or contact a clinic in the island clinic directory.

  2. Arrange certification

A staff member follows up on the pre-application. Ask about appointment arrangements and the clinic’s document checklist.

  3. Complete the assessment

Provide the records and discuss the applicant’s health and nutrition needs, then review benefit and shopping instructions.

After applying

Keep clinic appointments and use the current allowed-food list. Contact the clinic for card issues, benefit questions or breastfeeding support.

Common questions

Does a pre-application approve benefits?

No. It begins contact with staff; the clinic decides eligibility.

Can other public benefits help establish income eligibility?

The state’s appointment page says proof of QUEST, TANF or SNAP meets WIC income requirements. Other eligibility checks remain.

How do I find a clinic on my island?

The state clinic directory lists locations and phone contacts for the islands.
