HEAP Energy Assistance (Ohio)

Ohio HEAP helps eligible households cover part of their home energy costs. A separate crisis request may be needed for an urgent shutoff.

Who can apply

Eligibility depends on household income and the current season’s rules. Ask the local energy assistance provider to assess your household.

What help is available

Assistance varies with household circumstances and available funding; it is not payment of every energy bill.

Documents to prepare

  • Household names and requested identification.
  • Adult household income records.
  • Recent energy bills and any shutoff notice.

How to get started

  1. Choose an intake route

Apply through Ohio Energy Assistance or contact your local Energy Assistance Provider/Community Action Agency.

  2. Complete the request

Sign the application and supply the requested evidence. Tell the provider about any immediate loss of service.

  3. Follow up

Keep your submission record and ask whether an emergency appointment is needed.

After applying

An application does not itself stop disconnection. Speak with your utility about your account while the request is pending.
