Indiana SNAP (Food Assistance)

Indiana SNAP helps eligible households buy food through Hoosier Works EBT. Apply through FSSA or a local Division of Family Resources office.

Who can apply

DFR reviews the household, income, resources and other SNAP rules. Married couples and children younger than 22 living with their parents are among the relationships that must be included together. Use DFR’s current income guidance for your household.

What help is available

Approved food benefits are accessed through an EBT card. The state’s decision gives your household’s award; the application and card-service processes are separate.

Documents to prepare

  • Household names, birth dates and Social Security information requested by DFR.
  • Income and resource records.
  • Housing, utility, dependent-care and court-ordered child support expenses.
  • Eligible older or disabled members’ unreimbursed medical expenses.

How to get started

  1. Apply

Use the FSSA Benefits Portal or your local DFR office.

  2. Complete the interview

Discuss household circumstances and save the verification checklist and due date.

  3. Return verification

Send the requested records by the stated deadline and retain submission evidence.

After applying

DFR sends an eligibility notice with appeal rights. Read it carefully, keep your address current and follow the reporting instructions for your case.
