Who can apply
A family must include a child under 18, including an unborn baby under the state’s published guidance, and meet income/resource requirements. Qualifying relative or court-appointed caregivers may apply.
What help is available
Cash amounts depend on income, household size, living arrangement and county. Employment support can include training, transportation and help addressing barriers.
Documents to prepare
Prepare child/caregiver details, household finances and prior TANF history. Tell the worker about caregiving or health circumstances affecting work participation.
How to get started
Apply through the DCF Self-Service Portal or contact DCF Benefits Assistance at 888-369-4777 for a paper form.
Complete screening and discuss work activities and child-support cooperation. DCF lists exceptions for caring for a baby under two months or a disabled household member; ask how the rule applies.
After applying
The published lifetime limit is 24 months, with specified hardship provisions in the policy manual. Ask how previous assistance is counted. Follow reporting and participation notices.
