Documents to prepare
Gather household identities, children’s school information where relevant and records of earnings or other income. Ask DCBS which additional proof it needs for your particular family; keep a copy of the request.
How to get started
- Apply through kynect benefits, a local DCBS office, or by calling 855-306-8959.
- Complete the requested family and financial information and discuss work-program requirements with the worker.
- Submit the requested verification and keep the application confirmation and copies of documents.
After applying
Read the eligibility notice and work plan carefully. Report employment and ask how earnings affect assistance before assuming the case must close. KTAP has a 60-month lifetime limit, with months counted across periods of receipt; ask the worker about your remaining months.

Common questions
Will getting a job automatically stop KTAP?
No. Kentucky explains that some earnings may be disregarded. Ask your worker to calculate the effect of the job on your case.
Can KTAP help with getting to work?
Transportation and other employment-related assistance may be available through an approved Kentucky Works plan.
Do the 60 months have to be consecutive?
No. The lifetime limit counts periods of KTAP receipt even when separated by time off assistance.
What if cash assistance ends because I work?
Ask about continuing SNAP, Medicaid or child care eligibility and available work-incentive assistance. Each has its own rules.
