Who can apply
Legal Aid assesses financial eligibility, the type of civil issue and whether it can assist. Tell intake staff about an imminent hearing or response deadline.
What help is available
Help may include legal advice or other civil legal services accepted by the organization. A request for intake does not itself confirm representation.
Documents to prepare
- Keep court documents, notices and relevant agreements together.
- Prepare a short timeline and the next deadline.
- Have income and household details ready for intake screening.
How to get started
Call the correct intake number
Oʻahu callers can use 808-536-4302; neighbor-island callers can use 1-800-499-4302.
Check the contact hours
The current Legal Aid website lists weekday phone intake from 9–11:30 a.m. and 1–3:30 p.m.
Confirm the assistance offered
Explain your documents and deadline. Ask whether the case is accepted and what you must do while waiting.
After applying
Keep a record of the response and continue tracking deadlines. Request disability-related accommodation if the usual intake method is unsuitable.
