Who can apply
Applicants must meet household financial and status rules and be responsible for energy costs. The agency checks current eligibility and funding; priority intake may apply to older or medically homebound residents.
What help is available
LIHEAP assists with eligible household energy costs and specified energy emergencies. It is separate from a general application for SNAP or cash assistance.
Documents to prepare
- Have the most recent heating or cooling bill and any disconnect notice.
- Prepare recent income information for household members.
- Ask the agency which identity and household-status records its current intake requires.
How to get started
Find your Community Action Agency
Use the provider information on Georgia’s LIHEAP page.
Ask about the current season
Confirm opening dates, appointment arrangements and funding. Older state pages show different seasonal calendars, so use the local agency’s current notice.
Submit the local application
Explain any immediate energy crisis and provide the requested records through the agency’s intake process.
After applying
Check with the agency about the result and whether a vendor payment has been arranged. Discuss a shutoff separately with your utility while assistance is pending.
