LIHEAP (Home Energy Assistance)

Florida LIHEAP helps eligible households with home heating or cooling bills. Applications go to the provider serving your county, not a single statewide benefit portal.

Who can apply

Applicants must meet Florida residency, household financial and status rules and be responsible for home energy costs. The local provider checks the current rules and available funding.

What help is available

Assistance is paid to the utility on the household’s behalf. It is energy assistance: Florida’s program does not pay water, sewer or telephone bills.

Documents to prepare

  • Your most recent home-energy bill.
  • Any final termination or disconnection notice.
  • Current income records for household members.
  • Applicant identification and the household identity or status records requested by the provider.

How to get started

  1. Locate the county provider

    Use FloridaCommerce’s provider directory.

  2. Check local intake

Some county providers offer an online application. If none is listed, contact the agency directly for its process and appointment availability.

  3. Explain urgent circumstances

Give the provider the shutoff date and notice. Ask the utility separately about an arrangement while the application is being considered.

After applying

Ask the provider whether assistance was approved and sent to the utility. An application alone does not confirm payment or stop a shutoff.
