Louisiana SNAP (Food Assistance)

Louisiana SNAP helps eligible households buy food through EBT. The Department of Health now administers the program, with applications and case documents handled through CAFÉ and LAHelpU.

Who can apply

['Eligibility depends on household income, size and other SNAP rules. Asset treatment varies; some households qualify for categorical exemptions.', 'Report the household accurately and ask the worker about any student, immigration or work-rule issue that applies.']

What help is available

Approved SNAP benefits pay for eligible household food. They generally do not cover household supplies, supplements, alcohol or hot prepared meals. The eligibility notice gives your award and reporting instructions.

Documents to prepare

Prepare identity, income and relevant expense proof. Include wages or job separation records, self-employment information and other benefit income. Upload readable documents and retain a copy of the checklist.

How to get started

  1. Apply through the CAFÉ link at LDH’s SNAP Success Center, or call 888-524-3578.
  2. A paper application can be mailed, faxed to 225-663-3164 or delivered to a local office. Applications cannot be emailed.
  3. Complete the interview and provide requested verification by the deadline shown.

After applying

Watch for the interview instructions and decision. If you miss a call, contact LAHelpU to arrange the interview rather than starting a duplicate application. Report changes and complete redetermination when required. Use the case instructions to challenge a decision you believe is incorrect.
