Who can apply
['The state assesses income, household composition, allowable expenses and other rules. Household members generally buy and prepare meals together.', 'Spouses and children under 22 living with a parent must be included together even when meals are separate. Ask OFI about student or work-rule exemptions that apply to you.']What help is available
Approved benefits buy eligible food. The decision letter states the award and reporting duties. Maine’s current EBT restriction limits transactions to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont unless OFI arranges other-state use.
Documents to prepare
Prepare identity, income and household expense records, such as rent, utilities and dependent-care costs. Submit the items requested in the verification letter and contact OFI if you cannot obtain them by the deadline.
How to get started
- Apply through My Maine Connection linked from Maine SNAP, or call 855-797-4357.
- A paper application can also be submitted to OFI by mail, email, fax or at a regional office.
- Complete the telephone or in-person interview and respond to verification requests.
After applying
Keep the decision and follow its reporting and renewal instructions. The current ABAWD time-limit period resets October 1, 2026 and runs through September 30, 2029; ask OFI to document any exemption rather than assuming the reset removes work obligations.
