Maryland WIC

Maryland WIC supports eligible pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding participants, infants and children younger than five. A local WIC agency completes enrollment at an appointment.

Who can apply

['Applicants must live in Maryland, meet the income rules and have a nutritional need.', 'Parents, guardians and grandparents can apply for an eligible child; employment or homeownership does not by itself exclude a household.']

What help is available

WIC provides participant-specific foods and nutrition support. Ask the clinic about breastfeeding help and the current eWIC shopping instructions.

Documents to prepare

Bring each applicant, identity proof, address proof and household income or accepted benefit evidence. The state lists pay records, benefit letters or Medical Assistance evidence; pregnancy or immunization information may also be requested.

How to get started

  1. Use Maryland WIC’s county contacts or its Client Portal to schedule an appointment.
  2. Confirm the checklist with the clinic and bring each person applying.
  3. Complete the income and nutrition review and ask how benefits and follow-up appointments work.

After applying

Keep appointments and use the Maryland WIC app or current food list to check purchases. Contact the local agency for benefit questions. The statewide WIC hotline is 800-242-4942.

Common questions

Can I schedule online?

Can a grandparent apply for a child?

Yes. Maryland lists grandparents and guardians as eligible caregivers to apply for a child.

Must the infant attend the first appointment?

Maryland directs applicants to bring every person seeking benefits, including infants and children. Confirm any accommodation with the clinic.

Does owning a home disqualify me?

No. The state explicitly says applicants may own a home. Income and other WIC rules still apply.
