Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)

MFIP combines cash and food assistance with employment support for eligible families with children and pregnant applicants.

Who can apply

An income and asset screen applies, along with verification. Most caregivers face a cumulative 60-month limit; ask about your individual circumstances.

What help is available

Families receive cash and food through EBT. Employment services and possible child-care help support work or education.

Documents to prepare

  • Household, pregnancy or child information.
  • Income and asset records.
  • Documents requested for the interview.

How to get started

  1. Apply

Use MNbenefits, or submit a paper application to the county or Tribal Nation.

  2. Attend an interview

Complete the local office’s phone or in-person interview and verification.

  3. Discuss an employment plan

Ask the caseworker about required activities, child care and relevant exceptions.

After applying

Read benefit notices, follow the employment plan and report changes.
