Who can apply
Referral help is different from benefit eligibility. The organization providing food, shelter, utilities or another service determines who it can serve.
What help is available
211 supplies resource information and contact routes. The published live-chat hours are 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily; do not assume every referred agency has the same hours.
Documents to prepare
- Know your ZIP code and county.
- Describe the needed help and any time-sensitive notice.
- Record contacts and intake instructions.
How to get started
Choose a contact method
Call 211 or 866-813-1731, text your ZIP to 898211, or use United Way’s search and chat links.
Explain the need
Tell the specialist whether you need immediate food, shelter, an energy referral or another service.
Confirm local intake
Contact the referred organization about its service area, current availability and application process.
After applying
Ask for alternatives if a referral is unsuitable. Use the Nebraska search option on the network page when browsing resources independently.

Yes. The network lists texting your ZIP code to 898211.
What are the chat hours?
The current page lists live chat from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
