Who can apply
Applicants must meet household financial, residency and status rules and be responsible for home energy utilities. Cooling and crisis help have additional conditions; qualifying for one component does not establish eligibility for all.
What help is available
Payments offset qualifying energy costs, generally through the utility provider. The current page says automatic heating payments depend on receiving federal funds.
Documents to prepare
- Current heating or cooling bill.
- A shutoff or reconnection notice where applicable.
- Income and household records requested by DHHS.
- Any medical statement requested for cooling eligibility.
How to get started
Contact DHHS or apply
Use iServe or a DHHS office. Explain an urgent heating notice by calling the published assistance number.
Specify the component
State whether you need heating, cooling or crisis help and describe who is responsible for the bill.
Supply requested proof
Follow DHHS’s checklist and read the decision and utility-payment information.
After applying
Ask whether funds have been authorized and sent. Discuss the balance and pending shutoff with the utility; eligibility does not itself establish immediate payment.

Common questions
Is cooling available to every financially eligible household?
No. DHHS lists additional household or medically verified conditions for cooling assistance.
Is crisis intake seasonal?
The state describes year-round crisis payments, with additional crisis eligibility conditions.
Are last program year’s dollar limits current?
The page still displays a table ending September 30, 2026. Ask DHHS for the current period rather than using that table as an October 2026 limit.
