New Hampshire Fuel Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

New Hampshire Fuel Assistance helps eligible households with heating costs through local Community Action Agencies. Contact the agency serving your town to begin intake.

Who can apply

Both renters and homeowners may qualify. Household income, size, heating responsibility and subsidy arrangements matter; ask the agency for current limits and the correct program-year form.

What help is available

Assistance offsets qualifying heating costs and may help with a heating emergency. It is separate from the electric-bill discount and weatherization services.

Documents to prepare

  • Household income records.
  • Recent heating and electric bills.
  • Rental or mortgage information.
  • A landlord statement when heat is included in rent.
  • Any delivery, shutoff or other urgent notice.

How to get started

  1. Contact your local CAA

    Use the state’s local-agency guidance.

  2. Arrange intake

Ask for the current application, evidence checklist and an accommodation if you cannot attend an office.

  3. Read the award information

Check which vendor or landlord receives the benefit and explain any unresolved heating emergency.

After applying

Hillsborough and Rockingham’s provider publishes an April 30, 2027 application deadline for its 2026–27 season; confirm your own agency’s arrangements. Do not reuse a table labeled for the previous year.

Common questions

What if I live in subsidized housing?

The Hillsborough/Rockingham provider distinguishes households paying their own heat from those whose subsidized rent includes heat. Ask your agency about your arrangement.

Is it paid directly to me?

The provider describes payment to the heating vendor, or an eligible landlord arrangement.

Can I ask about weatherization at intake?

Yes. The state says eligibility for the two services can usually be assessed during the same local appointment.
