NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid & CHIP)

NJ FamilyCare is New Jersey’s Medicaid and children’s coverage program. Apply through the FamilyCare pathway and review each applicant’s decision and plan-enrollment instructions.

Who can apply

Eligibility depends on category, household income, residence and status rules. Children under 19 can apply regardless of immigration status through Cover All Kids. Some adult non-citizen rules change in fall 2026; consult the current state update.

What help is available

Approved coverage helps pay for qualifying medical services. Coverage dates and plans depend on the individual decision; the provider portal is not the resident application route.

Documents to prepare

  • Household names and dates of birth.
  • Income, employer and tax-filing details.
  • Current address and existing health coverage.
  • Status information for people requesting coverage and any requested records.

How to get started

  1. Start the appropriate application

Use Cover All Kids for a child or the linked NJ FamilyCare application. Call 800-701-0710 for help.

  2. Save the confirmation

Keep the application copy and the eligibility agency contact listed on its confirmation page.

  3. Answer follow-up requests

Provide requested records and read the result for each person, including health-plan selection.

After applying

Keep contact details current. The state’s community-engagement update describes changes beginning in 2027 for certain adults; follow the notice for your coverage category and renewal timing.

Common questions

Cover All Kids says children under 19 may apply regardless of their own immigration status, subject to other rules.

Must every household member have an SSN to apply?

The application checklist says you can still apply if an SSN is unavailable.

Are the new adult work rules already universal?

No. The state describes 2027 changes for particular adult coverage groups, with exclusions and individual notice.
