Seasonal Fuel Assistance (Vermont LIHEAP)

Vermont Seasonal Fuel Assistance pays part of eligible households’ heating costs. It is separate from emergency Crisis Fuel.

Who can apply

The state currently lists gross income at or below 185% of federal poverty. Homeowners and renters can qualify, including households paying heat through rent.

What help is available

Payment depends on the primary fuel and how heating costs are paid. Active recipients also qualify for free weatherization.

Documents to prepare

  • Household members, including people DCF may exclude from its fuel calculation.
  • Income evidence.
  • Heating fuel, supplier or rent information.

How to get started

  1. Start or renew

Previous recipients complete the annual review form. New applicants use the online link on Fuel Assistance.

  2. Choose paper if needed

Call 800-479-6151 or use a district office; a fuel-only form is available.

  3. Return records

Sign the form and supply the requested heating and income details.

After applying

The benefit covers part of heating costs. For an immediate emergency, contact Crisis Fuel intake separately.
