Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA)

Florida Temporary Cash Assistance supports qualifying families with dependent children. Apply through DCF’s MyACCESS system and expect both financial and family-circumstance checks.

Who can apply

The program covers eligible families with children under 18, or under 19 while attending secondary school full time. Some pregnant applicants can qualify in specified late-pregnancy circumstances. Residency, income, assets and other rules also apply; work participation or an exemption may be relevant.

What help is available

TCA provides cash assistance and links eligible adults to employment-related services. Child-only and relative-caregiver cases have different rules from adult assistance.

Documents to prepare

  • Prepare income and asset information for the family.
  • Have children’s identity, relationship and school information available.
  • If claiming pregnancy or a work exemption, ask DCF which supporting record it needs.

How to get started

  1. Select cash assistance

Apply through MyACCESS or seek help at a DCF Family Resource Center.

  2. Explain your family situation

List the parents, children and minor siblings living together. Explain pregnancy, caregiving or other circumstances relevant to the claim.

  3. Respond to DCF

Complete any requested interview and provide the verification listed in your pending notice.

After applying

Read the decision and participation instructions together. If child-support cooperation or work participation raises a concern, discuss your circumstances with DCF rather than assuming no exception exists.

Common questions

Is TCA available to adults without children?

Ordinary TCA is a family program. DCF lists separate assistance programs for other circumstances.

Can a pregnant person apply?

Yes, DCF describes limited late-pregnancy eligibility. Ask DCF to assess your stage of pregnancy and ability to work.

Is a relative-caregiver case the same as ordinary TCA?

No. Florida has a separate Relative Caregiver Program tied to specified child-welfare placements and child eligibility rules.
