Unemployment Benefits (Michigan)

Michigan unemployment claims use MiWAM through MiLogin. UIA checks the initial claim and continuing certifications.

Who can apply

Eligibility depends on wages, separation and continuing availability and work-search rules. Waivers apply only when granted for the circumstances.

What help is available

Approved claimants receive temporary payments. Since July 19, 2026, claimants subject to work search must report at least three unique activities per week.

Documents to prepare

  • Employer, wage and separation records.
  • Identity information required for the claim.
  • A dated log of work-search activities and earnings.

How to get started

  1. Start from UIA’s instructions

Use UIA’s Claimant Roadmap and its MiLogin/MiWAM links.

  2. Complete registration and verification

Follow the claim instructions and respond to requests.

  3. Certify and report work search

Use the assigned certification schedule. Report earnings and the required activities for each week.

After applying

Check MiWAM correspondence and keep evidence of work search. Read determination and protest deadlines carefully.
