Unemployment Insurance (Alaska)

Alaska Unemployment Insurance takes initial claims through myAlaska. Once a claim is open, weekly filings and the state’s eligibility instructions determine which weeks can be paid.

Who can apply

['The state reviews wages and the circumstances of unemployment. Workers unemployed or working less than full time can apply for a determination.', 'You must generally be able and available for suitable full-time work and follow the work-search instructions unless told otherwise. Report barriers that affect accepting work.']

What help is available

The monetary determination sets the potential weekly payment and duration. Actual payment also requires weekly eligibility; a monetary determination alone is not approval for every week.

Documents to prepare

Prepare your Social Security number, last employer’s contact details, employment dates, last-week hours and gross earnings, and any severance, vacation or retirement information. The state also identifies immigration/work authorization information where applicable and special federal or military records for recent service.

How to get started

  1. Sign into myAlaska and choose Unemployment Insurance Benefits. An existing myAlaska account can be used.
  2. File a new claim or reopen the existing claim as appropriate. Complete the final certification and save the confirmation number.
  3. Read all instructions, including any request to contact the claim center. Continue weekly filings and the required work search.

After applying

Use the claim system to check status and maintain payment details. A representative contacts you if more information is needed. Review determinations and any appeal deadline. Keep records of earnings and work searches for each claimed week.
