Who can apply
KDOL checks covered wages, the employment-separation reason and weekly ability and availability for work. Reduced hours may qualify. Quitting or discharge requires review rather than an automatic assumption.
What help is available
The agency determines the weekly and maximum benefit from wages and the claim. A benefits card by itself does not establish eligibility.
Documents to prepare
Keep employer details, employment dates, pay records and separation information ready. Record work-search activities and any gross wages or other payments for weekly certification.
How to get started
Create an account at KansasUI.gov and submit the initial claim. Follow identity and evidence requests.
Continue weekly certifications while unemployed, including the waiting week and while a decision is pending. Complete required work-search activities unless exempt and report earnings accurately.
After applying
Read the approval or denial notice. If weekly filing fails, contact KDOL immediately; its current handbook lists 800-292-6333. Use the decision’s reconsideration or appeal instructions.
