Unemployment Insurance (Maine Department of Labor)

Maine Unemployment Insurance provides temporary benefits to qualifying workers with lost work or reduced hours. ReEmployME handles claims and weekly certifications.

Who can apply

['You generally need sufficient prior wages and job loss or reduced hours through no fault of your own.', 'Weekly eligibility requires being able and available for work and following job-search rules unless a recognized waiver applies.']

What help is available

The state determines the payment and payable weeks from the claim. Initial filing does not request all future weeks or resolve every eligibility issue.

Documents to prepare

Prepare your Social Security or relevant immigration information, employment history and a valid email address. Set up the ReEmployME account and keep identity-verification instructions and confirmations secure.

How to get started

  1. Use Maine’s File a New Claim link to enter ReEmployME.
  2. Complete employment and separation details and respond to any verification requests.
  3. File a weekly certification and maintain the required Maine JobLink account. Unless waived, complete at least one qualifying search activity each week.

After applying

Save search evidence and weekly confirmations. Simply browsing JobLink is not a qualifying activity. If temporarily laid off with a definite recall date, ask about the current waiver, which covers the last six weeks before return rather than automatically the first six weeks unemployed.

Common questions

Is browsing JobLink enough?

No. Maine requires an actual qualifying activity such as applying, contacting an employer or participating in eligible reemployment services.

Do I need a JobLink account?

Maine’s work-search page says unemployment claimants must have an active Maine JobLink account.

Does a temporary layoff automatically waive all searching?

No. Ask about the recognized waiver and its dates. The current rule covers the last six weeks before a definite return.

Who can help with claim access?

Contact unemployment customer service at 800-593-7660 during the hours shown on the state website.
