Unemployment Insurance (Massachusetts DUA)

Massachusetts DUA provides unemployment insurance to eligible workers who lose work or have substantially reduced hours. Apply through Unemployment Services for Workers and file weekly claims afterwards.

Who can apply

['Workers with sufficient covered wages and a qualifying job separation or reduction in hours.', 'Weekly eligibility includes work availability and required job search activity; DUA decides the circumstances of each claim.']

What help is available

Temporary weekly payments based on the wage record and weekly eligibility. Report work and earnings even if you expect a reduced payment.

Documents to prepare

Prepare employer names, dates and reasons for separation, identity and contact details, and payment account information. Federal or military workers and noncitizens may need additional records listed by DUA.

How to get started

  1. Use the state application page to create or access Unemployment Services for Workers through MyMassGov.
  2. Select File an unemployment insurance claim and complete the application.
  3. For a telephone application call 877-626-6800, Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  4. Start weekly claims the week after applying, even while review is pending.

After applying

Respond to DUA requests and check the account. Report at least three work search activities per week unless participating in DUA-approved training. Activities are entered online; a paper log is no longer required for online claims. The initial eligible claim week is unpaid.
