Unemployment Insurance (Minnesota)

Minnesota unemployment insurance provides temporary partial wage replacement for eligible workers who lose work or have substantially reduced hours.

Who can apply

DEED reviews work history and eligibility. Weekly requirements continue after the initial claim.

What help is available

The benefit-account determination shows the calculated amount; a separate eligibility decision may also be needed.

Documents to prepare

  • Employment and separation information.
  • Identity and contact details.
  • Records needed for weekly payment requests.

How to get started

  1. Use the current site

Go to ui.mn.gov. It replaced uimn.org; existing login details still work.

  2. Apply for benefits

Complete the application and review all notices in the account.

  3. Request weekly payments

Follow the payment-request instructions and accurately report work and earnings.

After applying

Read eligibility decisions and requests promptly. An account calculation alone does not establish payable eligibility.
