Weatherization Assistance (Alaska Housing Finance Corporation)

Alaska’s weatherization program provides approved energy improvements at no cost to qualifying households. Apply through the service provider covering your area, rather than arranging repairs yourself.

Who can apply

['Homeowners and renters can apply if they meet the current income limits. The program also includes condos.', 'If the home belongs to a state-designated regional housing authority, AHFC directs applicants to that authority. The provider determines eligibility and suitable work.']

What help is available

The provider assesses the home and arranges approved weatherization services. Work is provided without charge to qualified applicants; it is not a general cash grant for any renovation you choose.

Documents to prepare

Ask the provider for income and occupancy verification requirements. Renters should discuss the landlord-tenant agreement and permission to enter before an assessment. Prepare records requested by intake and keep the provider’s contact for scheduling.

How to get started

  1. Open AHFC’s weatherization page and its Service Providers link.
  2. Contact the provider for your area, or your regional housing authority where applicable.
  3. Submit its application and records. Coordinate assessment access and any rental permissions before work begins.

After applying

Ask about selection, waiting time and the approved work. Keep the assessment and completion information for your records. Do not independently hire a contractor expecting reimbursement from this program.

Common questions

Can renters apply?

Yes. AHFC says renters and homeowners may apply; rental permissions and program eligibility still matter.

Are condos excluded?

No. AHFC’s FAQ says condos are included.

Who do housing-authority tenants contact?

AHFC directs residents of homes owned by a state-designated regional housing authority to contact that authority.

Can an already weatherized home apply?

Ask the provider about re-weatherization eligibility and priority. AHFC’s FAQ distinguishes previously weatherized homes from homes never served.
