Weatherization Assistance Program (Louisiana)

Louisiana weatherization helps eligible households reduce energy loss through approved home improvements. Regional providers accept applications and evaluate the dwelling.

Who can apply

['Household income and program rules determine eligibility. The state webpage displays a 2025 income table, so confirm the applicable current limit with the provider.', 'Waiting-list priority considers older adults, families with children, disability and high energy use or burden. Priority does not guarantee immediate work.']

What help is available

An assessment can identify measures such as insulation, air sealing and duct sealing. Ask what is approved for your home and whether repairs are needed before work can proceed.

Documents to prepare

LHC lists recent consecutive pay records, other income, address proof, a current energy bill, adult photo identification and household Social Security cards. Renters should ask the provider about ownership consent and rental requirements before assuming work can be authorized.

How to get started

  1. Choose your region on LHC’s weatherization provider map.
  2. Contact that provider for its application, current financial rules and checklist.
  3. Submit the records and arrange an assessment when scheduled. Keep copies of the intake confirmation.

After applying

Ask how your waiting-list status is communicated and notify the provider about changes affecting the case. Confirm the scope of work and inspection process. Do not independently order improvements expecting the program to reimburse them.

Common questions

Does being eligible mean the work starts immediately?

No. Louisiana describes waiting-list priorities and does not guarantee availability.

Is this the same as utility bill assistance?

No. Weatherization makes approved efficiency improvements. LIHEAP bill assistance has a separate application.

Should I use the website’s 2025 dollar table?

Ask the provider for the limit applicable to your application rather than relying on an older table.

Can I request a particular improvement?

Describe the problem, but the assessment and program rules determine which measures can be approved.
