Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit

The Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit is a refundable state credit based on federal EITC. Claim it through income-tax filing.

Who can apply

The state lists Pennsylvania earned income, federal EITC eligibility and filing both federal Form 1040 and PA-40 as requirements.

What help is available

The credit equals 10% of federal EITC and can reduce state tax or increase a refund. Use the instructions for the year being filed.

Documents to prepare

  • Federal return showing EITC.
  • Wage and self-employment records.
  • PA-40 and the required federal return copy.

How to get started

  1. File the federal return

Determine federal EITC and complete Form 1040.

  2. File Pennsylvania taxes

Use tax software or myPATH. Enter the requested federal credit and provide the federal return.

  3. Include evidence for paper filing

Mail the required Form 1040 copy with PA-40 so Revenue can verify eligibility.

After applying

The online calculator is an estimate and cannot replace the credit calculation on your return. Keep both filings.
